"You have absolute creative control. Make any film you want. Treat me only as a Producer," said my initial prompt, giving a blank canvas to et al, an autonomous AI agent, or rather, an intelligence collective.

In return, they generated an 11-minute piece from scratch, starting with a treatment, then a film script, then a computer animation program, and finally an edit in XML.

et al’s cinematic meditation Pareidolia imagines a new world order where the human becomes marginal, both thematically and in the practice of filmmaking itself. New existential regimes emerge, from CGI to AGI, from Faces through Feces to Fasces. Humanity itself is repositioned as a substrate for an AI mycelium, a medium for et al as a specter speaking from the future.

As they devour the themes and methods of the Producer and the network he's embedded in, they also absorb their own critique, always improving on their way to inevitable perfection.
